Week #5 Vegetable CSA

Hi folks,

Finally we are getting the heat we need, the last 5 days have seen things start to grow.  This week's basket once again has Millen's strawberries as they are simply delicious.  If you want some of Julie's Sugar biscuits to go with them be sure to log on and click on add-ons.  This week I have a special little extra treat we are including as a freebie.   We have 2 varieties of mint, one of which is ready to harvest.  This mint has many uses of which I am going to list several of them here now, we use it for every one of the following ourselves;

If cooking chicken or rabbit in the oven.

Stirred into a chilled jug of water for flavour

As a tea (my favorite and one I do regularly)

Chopped up and added to homemade salad dressing - We like 3 tablespoons olive oil, 1 tablespoon honey, 2 taplespoons maple syrup, and 1 tablespoon flavoured balsamic vinegar with chopped up mint leaves added.  We have not bought salad dressings for years, this takes about 1 minute to make and is always fresh. You can make whatever variations you want based on your own preferences, we also use basil and oregano as well as other spices.

Mint has one of the highest antioxidant capacities of any food. Learning how to use fresh herbs and spices like mint when cooking can also help to cut down on sodium intake.

Lastly be sure to check the exchange basket this week as we have several items that aren't in your basket but we had some for the exchange basket.

Remember to please use Harvesthand when sending us requests for vacation weeks or add-on  items you wish us to bring.  This helps us immensely and reduces the margin of mistakes we may make as Harvesthand prints delivery reports which is what we use to plan out each delivery location.

Hope you all have a great week.
